How We Research Our Reviews

The short version: we don't test products hands-on. Every review on The Verified Picks is research-based. We compare manufacturer specs, read the Amazon listings and owner reviews, and list our sources on every page. Each review's byline says "Researched by", and we never claim testing we haven't done.

How we choose what to review

We cover specific, often overlooked product types (a heated bird bath, a boot dryer, a nugget ice maker) where buyers have a clear need and the big review sites offer little guidance. Before writing, we check that there's real search demand and at least three credible options sold on Amazon US.

How we pick the winners

Ratings

The star rating on a review is our editorial judgment of how well the top pick fits the buyer the page is written for, based on that research. It isn't a lab score, and it isn't Amazon's customer rating.

Sources

Every review lists its sources at the bottom of the page: the manufacturer pages, Amazon listings and retailer pages we relied on for specific facts. If a claim matters and we couldn't source it, we leave it out.

Keeping reviews current

Products get discontinued, renamed and changed. We re-check reviews on a rolling weekly schedule, so every page is re-verified roughly every eight weeks. Each re-check confirms the pick is still sold, matches its listing and has its specs right. The "Updated" date on each review is the date it was last re-verified. When a pick stops being the right choice, we replace it and say so.

Corrections

When we find a mistake (a wrong spec, a discontinued product, a broken link), we fix it in the next update and move the review's "Updated" date forward.
